CSM Art Degree Show 2011

Central Saint Martins college of Art and Design (CSM) is one of Britain’s leading art institutions. This week marks the end of an era as the college relocates from its current position in Soho to a brand new building in Kings Cross. Not without resistance (Foyles will be losing half of their customer base, institution fees will be increasing, there will be a security guard to prevent past students from hanging around the library, pretending they still have a purpose and aren’t three years graduated with no job…) head of college Professor Jane Rapely maintains this necessary overhaul will reap positive results, bringing all creative pathways together under one (stable) roof.

Us students aren’t so sure, but what is certain is that CSM’s graduating year 2011 staged a remarkable show with which to bid farewell to a cherished institution. Highlights include a selection of handmade hats by Charles Garcin, a sculptural installation by Hugo Avido and the recreation of an artist’s home by Michael Cheah.
Full details of the show can be found at www.csmbafineart.com
